  108. "anonymous FTP" is just a way for files to be stored where anyone can
  109. retrieve them over the Net. For example, to retrieve the latest version
  110. of the sci.math FAQ, do the following:

  113.   > anonymous             /* type this when it asks for your name    */

  132. A bit of historical background on the sci.math FAQ:
  133.  
  134. The sci.math faq list was started during Christmas 1989. At that time
  135. I wrote the answer to all 9 questions except 1Q (Fermat). 
  136.  
  137. Thus, I didn't compile a list of contributors. With time, people have
  138. made innumerable suggestions and contributions. 
  139.  
  140. I estimate that I have received over 2000 mailings from over 500 persons
  141. commenting on the FAQ list.
  142.  
  143. As such it is not possible to explicitly thank them all. But I would 
  144. like to take a minute to commend all those who have contributed to
  145. this list in one way or another.
